What every LA property manager needs to know before hiring a pool lifeguard

Pool season is winding down, and that makes this the best time to plan next year's coverage. If you manage an HOA, condo association or apartment complex with a pool, a few questions will tell you quickly whether a lifeguard provider is ready for a property like yours.

1. Ask for the certificate of insurance first

Your board will want a certificate of insurance (COI) on file before anyone works at the pool. A provider should hand one over on request, without a back and forth. At Ace Lifeguarding, every booking carries general liability and workers compensation insurance, and we send a COI to your board or management company whenever you ask.

2. Ask how the guards are classified

California's AB5 law sets how workers are classified, and it matters when a guard works on your property. Ask any provider how their guards are classified and ask for documentation. Ace Lifeguarding complies with AB5 and can provide documentation to HOA boards and commercial clients.

3. Check the credentials, every guard, every time

Look for current American Red Cross lifeguarding certification, CPR/AED and First Aid, plus a background check. Every Ace guard is certified and background-checked before working a single shift. A friendly teenager from a neighborhood group chat is not the same thing.

4. Know the staffing ratio

The industry-standard ratio is one guard for every 25 swimmers. A busy summer weekend at a larger complex can go well past that, and so can a property with more than one pool area. For 50 or more swimmers, or multi-pool properties, we build a custom staffing plan around your layout and your peak hours instead of guessing.

5. Decide between one-time and recurring coverage

Some properties only need a guard for a holiday weekend or a community event. Others want weekly, monthly or full-season coverage. Recurring bookings are available, and discounted rates for recurring coverage are set by phone based on your schedule. A season-long contract also means the same reliable provider answering the phone when plans change.

6. Look for a provider who answers

Pool staffing goes wrong when nobody picks up. Ace Lifeguarding is owner-operated. You talk to the person responsible for your booking, guard details are confirmed in advance, and phones are monitored on event days.

7. Expect clear pricing

Our rates are published, with no booking fees, no equipment rental and no travel surcharge anywhere in Greater Los Angeles. Guards bring their own rescue tube, CPR kit and whistle, and they start every shift with a pool safety walkthrough.

Plan next season now

Contracts for next summer get settled in the fall, while this season's gaps are still fresh. If you want coverage lined up before spring, tell us about your property and we will put together a plan.
